The Next Supper
Societies often change because of random events, but over time, those events are turned into stories or myths that define what people value. These myths shape our culture—past, present, and future.
In my painting, The Next Supper, I compare today’s culture of capitalism with Da Vinci’s The Last Supper, which reflected the religious values of his time. Back then, the tallest buildings in society were cathedrals, showing how much people valued their faith. Today, our tallest buildings are skyscrapers, like the One World Trade Center. What does that say about what we value now?
I’m asking: What is the next big idea that will guide humanity? What story will we tell ourselves to believe in it? What is the energy or anticipation right before everything changes?
These are the questions behind this painting.
